Why Choose Us

Live beautifully.

Join us and build a healthy vibrant future.

We are dedicated to valuing the people working with us at every step of our process. A portion of profits go to regenerative farms. We’re working to re-establish a regenerative regional textile supply.

Live plastic free.

Our textiles are created with organic, 100% natural linen.

Reduce reliance on single use and plastic disposables with elegant linen products you’ll use and love every day. Crafted in Pennsylvania, our textiles are for gathering, storing, preparing and serving food.

Who We Are

Kitchen Garden Textiles was founded by Heidi Barr, a dancer turned costume designer. She was inspired to begin this work by urban farmers in her hometown of Philadelphia.

Strong relationships with a sew shop in Allentwon and several freelance seamtresses in Philadelpia keep the shop stocked with textiles crafted ethically in Pennsylvania.

Wanting to keep everyting local led Heidi to the shocking truth that there is no linen fabric produced in the United States. Not deterred, she co-founded the Pa. Flax Project with Emma De Long of kneehigh farm and began the work to rebuild a regional flax to linen supply chain.

Heidi Barr, Founder

The land, textiles and design have always been central in my life.

Initiatives

The latin origins of collaborate mean “to labor together” and through collaboration we deepen our impact and lighten our burdens.

Growers we support

40% of the gross profits from our linen produce bags are shared by two groups growing food in Philadelphia. The farms we support offer the opportunity for city dwellers to experience the pace of the natural world.

Flax Project

With farmers, we’re cultivating a US based flax into linen supply on diversified vegetable farms and city lots.

Collaboration with Chef Ari Miller

Although Ari's restaurant Musi has recently closed it's doors, our collaborations are not at an end. I'm proud of all we've done together, from textiles designed for his restaurant, to meals prepared by wraping food in my spent linens and placing them in the fire. Looking forward to more.

Judy Wicks Activist, Author & Founder, The White Dog Cafe

"The wonderful linen storage bags from Kitchen Garden Textiles play an essential role in my refrigerator, keeping my lettuce, celery and other produce fresh and moist. I have at least three in use at any time. How did I ever manage without them?!!"

Megan Oglevie, Farm Ambassador

A few words about the linen coffee filters from KGT. "I’m a coffee snob ever since working as a barista at a small, local shop many years ago.... So, along comes a product that is made from linen(!), that I feel *GOOD* about using for my daily dose of caffeinated bliss. Working in sustainability, I’m keyed into products that align with my ethics. Thank you for taking away my guilt for all the paper filters I won’t be using from here on out!"
